Ragging aisaich hota hai.....

P.S :(pre script) :D...well tis ws one of mah previous posts at rediffblogs...the blog ain't functionin now due to sum strange unknown reasons...so tis for thos of yew whu missed readin then...

The age ol' tradition called 'RAGGING' is still prevalent in my college, though it is officialy banned for the wrong reasons..I feel it is the essential part of college life while some think it is nothing more than a mixture of the usual scape-goating tactics to provide a common enemy..Ragging is a ubiquitous indian thingie..while it undoubtedly irritates new students no end,it does work at least anecdotally..Memorable moments of ragging are so vivid.teh will stay with me for many years to come..would love to share some of them with you all..my next posts will be exclusively on my lovely ragging experiences n my witty, interesting seniors..not that u all will be interested in knowing 'em in detail..Its fun to read 'em later once u pass out of the coll...These posts are dedicated to all those lovely seniors n my batch-mates..:))

I can neva forget my evil seniors( somi, robot sir, bhattu, vishnu n al' mech dudes) :) succeeding in making us run sideways, dance, hop around backwards singing hritik's number or make speeches from the canteen table about the benefits of prescribing viagra to teachers.(sniff..sniff)..or watching this young man who climbed a tree in campus ,thumped his chest and scremed out "me tarzan ,who jane?"...or running round the basketball court carrying those banners hailing you and showing middle fingers to our arch rivals(M.G.I.T dudes)..or playing RING-A-ROSES like small kiddos in the middle of the ground...or hijacking our college buses with our ULTI weapons ..our so called DRAFTERS...our unlimited services in the canteen..playing dandiya with the broom sticks.. making guys propose us umpteen times n instructing us to reject 'em no matter how adorable teh are....well the list goes on n on n on....

Freshers fondly called the batch of bakraas are not only regarded the ultimate source of entertainment..but also a source of deriving vicarious pleasure..some freshies think dat ragging is another way by which frustrated seniors vent their maniacal urges for cheap thrills..But it ws done in a spirit of fun..There were few cases even in my college which deserved contempt but those are exceptions..I agree that first few exchanges are generally one-sided,probably even un-pleasant..but they form the foundation for bonds which we carry to our graves..
It is really quite fun. Most ppl generally prove to be very sporting..But if yer victim ends up being shy, super sensitive person scared of his/her own shadow, then they send him off with a pat on the back and some solid advice to stay away frm the college canteen...I was tagged as a cry boobie when i burst into tears the very second day during ragging..(the most invaluable thing we get out of ragging is our nicknames)..I was asked to greet my seniors by singing, like SALLU does in the movie HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM( the hilarious dining hall scene ..remember?)..i was toungue tied n twisted, literally as i was never in a grp, which had more than 5 members..I stood speechless infront of 'em..Mr.Rude got really irritated n shouted at me saying u chickens are good for nothing..y don u go sit at home?..that was it..tears came dripping from my eyes..Never did a stranger spoke to me in such an arrogant way..The guys took pity on me and suggested i begin taking thingies easily n shud face ppl with different attitudes with ease...They took me along to the canteen n asked me to just watch the fun..We sat near the entrance when they found an adamant junior(violating all the rules set by the seniors). They asked him to play cricket..sounds simple??..try playing by yerself, where u are the bowler who goes to the top of the run up,run down and bowl, run to the other end of the wicket and bat,run to the boundary region as the fielder to collect the ball and throw it in,run back to the imaginary wickets to play the wicket keeper, run to the other end to become the umpire giving the batsman out n then finally come to the other end and go to the pavilion....He successfully completed the match..he ws quite a sport infact..He was asked to apologise which meant standing infront, in the crowded canteen,n then yelling respected mighty mighty seniors full stop i'm yer dirty dirty junior full stop will never try to act superior fullstop sorry for my agonistic behaviour fullstop i will always be yours loving diaper wearing warrior..that made me laugh too..n this time i was the target..they made us do sumthing really funny..asked the guy to go to the counter as if riding the bike wearing a helmet n doing al' those weird sounds like drrrrr...zoooom...buuuurrr..keeech..keeeech..kich (brake ) and making me a pillion seater acting like his g.f ( i tell u..it was hilarious..we jus cudn't stop ourselves frm laughing while doing it..majjaa came;)...

At an other instance we were caught cutting classes n gappe maaring in the canteen..Seniors asked us to join 'em for lunch..We were actually surprised by the offer but cudn't guess wot was in store for us then..*sob*..We were asked to have a square meal which meant eating the meal ina square manner, that is u raise the spoon towards yer mouth in a square manner and put it back similarly..they warned us not to smile during this..I did, and was asked to cut the smile literally again..standing infront in the crowded canteen, imitating a pair of scissors with my fingers to cut the smile from my lips and pretending to shove it up my backside..and shouting 'pheeew...sukoon' [oh! pleasure] for the entire canteen to hear...

Once i was asked to cover my face witha hand-kerchief n tie a red stole like a hair band n play bandit queen..with a gun(drafter) hanging frm my shoulder n the chart box as a missile launcher and hold up the bus...The driver was really cooperative and did stop the bus for 60 long secs.(real sweet guy)....was once asked to have a staring contest with the wall..(damn it neva blinks)..They even asked me to play hide n seek with Osama Binladen..told me dat he was hiding n i had togo find him searching every where in the college(these guyz are hecka-crazy)...

I can neva forget the way we laughed hysterically watching one of my class guys giving birth to motor bike helmet in the driveway( no no we did not run to the nearest bio-technological center to report our new finding..U c,the guy in labor was not any strange phenomenon, he was merely being ragged)....can neva forget how my frend ws made to kiss the penguin shaped dustbin near the canteen n was asked to shout smoochie smoochie doooo...can neva forget our parking lot where we were made to enact every stupid AD..Lifebuoy one was the highlight ( remember the I DON'T CARE version??)....can neva forget the way we had fun on the FRESHER'S DAY....At the end of it all,the walls between the juniors and seniors became non-existent..They were no longer those wicked manevolent seniors who pounced upon us..All of us who underwent ragging enjoyed it,and as was the custom looked forward to doing unto others the next year when we became seniors..Sure ragging is bad when taken to extremes but ask any student from the hey-day of ragging era and most if not all would plumb for it any day...hmmm...dats it guys..me signing off smiling...recollecting those gud ol' days..maja came brushing up al' those memories..:))

Hey,

Ragging was fun, at least for me... The first year of my college went by in no time...

Four years have passed in a jiffy. So many memories are rooted in my mind. Engineering has left me many memories, both good and bad. But I am lucky enough to have a far greater number of good memories than the bad ones. I don't regret the bad memories. That is because it was these bad memories, which made me change myself for good.

Anywayz a good piece of writing.. Initiative applauded.. Enjoy madi...
